Wise Extension.—A new telegraph station has opened at Kumara in the Province of Westland. Gisborne Febby.—Mr James Mackay has been appointed keeper of the public ferry at Gisborne, in place of Mr William Shearer. Agricultural Dinner.—The members of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society, will commemorate the show today, by a dinner at Mr Steggall’s Hotel. The Rev. E. Williams returned to Gisborne by the Jane Douglas on Thursday last, and will conduct Divine Service at Holy Trinity Church, to-morrow morning and evening. Harper, Gisborne 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., Matawhero2.3o p.m. Presbyterian.—The Rev. W. H. Root—Ormond 11 a.m., Makauri, 2.30 p.m., St. Andrew’s 7 p.m. Life Assurance. — Mr Thomson, travelling agent and lecturer for the Australian Mutual Provident Society, was a passenger by the Pretty Jane, yesterday, from Auckland, and purposes delivering some of his really entertaining lectures in this district during his stay. In the meantime Mr Thomson will take as many “ lives ” as he can get. Foresters’ Court.—The meeting called by advertisement, for the purpose of forming a Foresters’ Court in Gisborne, was well attended on Thursday evening last. A committee was formed, with Mr A. Walker as Chairman, with power to procure a dispensation through the Court “ Sir Charles Napier.” Mr File was appointed interim secretary. Barlow’s Circus.—This really attractive company arrived by the Pretty Jane from Auckland, yesterday ; a commodious marquee has been already erected on the vacant plot adjoining Mr McQaffery's garden, and the first performance will take place this evening. From the favorable comments made by the press, we doubt not that the Circus will be well patronised by the Gisborne people and inland settlers.
