THE MELBOURNE CUP.
The fatal occurence on board the City of Melbourne has had the effect of making Irish Stew a better favorite for the Melbourne Cup. The following is the copy of a private cablegram received in Auckland last week :— Melbourne, September 13th.—Irish Stew first favorite and firmer. Betting, 5 to 1.
