EAST COAST ELECTION.
The Reto Zealand Herald of the Bth -instant, reports having received telegrams from Tauranga the previous day, to the effect that a strong feeling was prevalent there that Mr. Sheehan should be asked to contest the East Coast district against Mr. W. Kelly. It is said that if Mr. Sheehan stands, Mr. Wilson, of Poverty Bay, will retire in his favor. [A? far as Poverty Bay is concerned Mr. Sheehan would stand no chance
whatever, of being elected, even if he consented to become a candidate; and we are positively sure that Mr. Wilson would not retire in his favor. There may be some few electors in Tauranga who would be favorable to Mr. Sheehan’s candidature, but we think they are far too few to exercise any effectual influence in regard to his return. —Ed. P.B.S.]
