TURF CLUB.
On Saturday evening last a meeting of the members of the Poverty Bay Turf Club was held at the Masonic Hotel, to make arrangements for the ensuing races. There was a fair attendance. Five«ew members were elected. Messrs A. McDonald, Pitt, Rogan, P. Breingaq, Tucker, Goldsmith, Caul ton, Gudgeon, were chosen to form the committee for the ensuing year. Messrs Tucker, R. Kelly, Pitt, Caulton, McDonald, Poynter, and Arthur were appointed stewards for the races. It was resolved that the 'races should take place on the 17th and 18th February and that the stewards should wear a •’ white ribbon in their button hole. Mr. M. Hall was re-elected Secretary ; and Dr. Nesbitt was appointed to act as .Judge at the races —Captain Winter to“be the starter/ The committee were instructed to draw up a programme which would include a hurdle race with eight jumps over bona dde hurdles, 3 feet 6 iuch.es in height, woven with brush to project three inches above the hurdles. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
