Th J Emperor of Austria has conferred on Mr. L. Mundy the gold medal for art and science, in recognition of his services as the author of “ Rotomabana and the Boiling Springs of New Zealand.” Mr. Mundy has just finished a lecture on that subject, which is given nightly at the Royal Polytechnic Institution. New Theatre fob Auckland. —The Star learns that Messrs Barnett and Levy intend building oh their lot, at the corner of Victoria-street and Queen-street, a brick block, 96ft. deep by 62ft. frontage in Queen-street, with an entrance in Queen-street and Victoria-street. There will be four handsome shops in Victoriastreet, and three in Queen-street. In the centre will be a large public hall or theatre, capable of holding from 1,500 to 1,600 people. Mr. Mahoney, the architect, has received instructions to prepare the plans and specifications. The people of tte Feilding settlement, in the Wellington province, are advertising for a resident medical practitioner to whom they offer a salary of £4OO per annum, guaranteed for three years, by more than twenty of tte principal settlers of the place.
