Turanganui Masonic Lodge.—A meeting of this Lodge will take place p on Monday evening, the 18th inst. at eight o’clock, for the transaction of business of great importance. Name Comskecial Bo>bding Acadrmy. —-Mr. Rearden announces that at the termination of the ensuing vacation, he will have completed extensive additions to his Boarding establishment, Coote Road, Napier, and will consequently have accommodation for additional boarders. The thoroughness of the instruction imparted at this academy is so well known as to require no commendation. CnuncH of England Service, Ormond.— On Sunday last the Rev. E. Williams held service in the theatre, Ormond. There was a good attendance, there being about thirty persons present. At the close of the service the congregation expressed a wish that Mr. Williams should officiate there once a fortnight, and a resolution to that effect was unanimously passed. To aid the psalmody, a harmonium is to be provided, and the sunirief £lO, is already in hand for the purpose. ' “4 TubangANl’l ISWtion.—The election of Mr. S. C. ns a member of the Prtrt' vincial Council for the district of Turangahui, si gazetted. We wish Mr. Caulton joy of his appointment under present circumstances, but do not think the most ardent Provineialist woqld afford him much hope of his even being introduced to Mr. O’Rorke in his official capacity of Speaker. If Sir George keeps his threat, there is just * possibility of his so doing. Mr. Caulton will probably have the honor (if he considers it such) of having been the last elected member of a Provincial Council in New Zealand. — -New Zealand Herald. Presentation to Mb. Rearden.—On • Thursday last Dr. Goold, on behalf of the local branch of the Hibernian Australasian Benefit Society, presented Mr. Bearden of Napier, with a massive locket gold ring, in recognition of the valuable services rendered by that gentleman in establishing the branch. A photograph of Mr. Rearden’s is to be placed in the locket. The ring was purchased at the establishmemt of Mr. Nasmith, Gisborne. Colonial Cideb.—We have been favored by our townsman, Mr. Crapp, with a sample of cider manufactured at his ginger beer and lemonade establishment, a branch of industry to which he has recently turned his attention. The sample is, as far as we are able to judge, a very creditable one, and can compare favorably with the cider manufactured in Dunedin and Auckland. It is, however, possible that Mr. Crapp has not yet brought ths article to that state of perfection which further experience in its manufacture is likely to develop. The cider, we are assured, improve with age, and is wan-anted to keep sound for four months on draught. Now that the summer is approaching, and cider being a delicious beverage, Mr. Crapp, will, doubtless, be able to command a good trade in this department of his business. Every species of local industry should be encouraged, and recognising this principle we wish Mr. Crapp every success in his new enterprise.

Meeting of Creditors. —A meeting of th? creditors of Benjamin James Hartnett, deceased, is advertised to take place-at the MaaoriicHall, on Monday next at 3 p.m. ST, Andrew’s Chirch.—At a meeting of the managing Committee of this Church held on Thursday evening,, it was resolved io hold a Bruce Auction, in ai l of the Manse Fund, on or about the 23rd December. Each member of the Committee undertook to canvass for contributions to the auction, and a hope was expressed that- the proceeds of the sale would ’amount to a sum -sufficiently large -fo induce them to set about-theypeedy erection of ’the Manse, so that the clergyman might be relieved .of the bunhsa-ftf .pacing.-rent 4or his house," which was a considerable drawback to him. The annual statistical returns of the: Church were ordered to be filled tip and transmitted Jo JJ le prqper/juarter for presentation to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand at its next meeting.
