The Nelson Colonist is responsible for the followingWe hear that a man exists in this province who has drunk two gallons of beer every day for, 26 years. Having a quiet sort of regard for this gentleman we have gone into, figures,' and 6 find that he has stowed' away £14,6 worth of beer a year, or during the 26 years, £3,796. A very old ■ inhabitant of Wellington has paid the debt of nature. The Tribune, of August 7, thus ‘ comments upon his death :— “■ The veritable ■ ‘ oiliest inhabitant ’ of this city paid the debt of nature to-day. In another column is recorded the death of Mr. Peter Dorreen, at the advanced age of 101. years. He was born in the County Down, Ireland, in 1774,, and come out .to New Zealand in 1840 in the. Bengal - Merchants ■ JJ 'He lias been in the hospital for the last three years, and his w idow’is still alive at the Hutt, aged 98.” ,
