LADIES' EXPRESS.

The Editor will be glad to give insertion to any local contributions from his lady friends that may be considered interesting in the family circle, or to the sejc generally.]

:o: WATCHING. Over the river tbo’ darkly it roll, Say dost thou wait for me, soul of my soul ? Yet doth thy sweet eyes look longingly o’er, And scan the dark wave ere it touches the shore, «, Watching, aye, watching ? Doth thy dear voice in song, pour forth a strain That its echo may dwell on our dull’d ears again ? Thy smile, does it linger? Thy faithful love yearn For the dear ones on earth, who in sorrow yet mourn ? Vain askings are these I The river rolls on, No sound from thy voice breaks the sad monotone ; In vain the lip quivers, the heart it beats fast, As the shadowy swell of the dark stream glides past, Naught comes to our watching. A gleam! and a breaking I —The sunlight I see, A ray of it floats o’er the grey surge to me ; It spreads, and it brightens I —Lo I soft robes of white, A face—as an angel’s, so pure, and so bright I Oh my darling I my darling—l see thse, I hear I Thy hand, let it touch me, —now nearer, more nearj Ah I Chill rise the mists, The night-wind sweepeth keen ; And the River! the River I Still rolls on between. But we watch, and are watching, Waiting for Day. C. August 18.
