Road Board Offices.—Tenders are called for the erection of a wood building in Gisborne for the use of the Road Board.
Provincial Council.—A requisition,requesting Mr. H. E. Webb to be nominated for the election of a member for the Provincial Council, appears in our advertising columns.
New Books.—Mr. Stubbs announces the arrival of a choice and varied selection of books at the Medical Hall; they are really worth inspection by those in pursuit of literature.
Concert.—The next concert by members of the Gisborne Musical Society is fixed to take place, we learn, on Wednesday evening the 22nd September. Public Dinner —We learn that the dinner to be given to Judge Rogan by the settlers of Poverty Bay, has been indefinitely postponed. Synodsman.—Mr. S. Locke of Napier, was elected at a parishioners’ meeting, held in Holy Trinity Church last Friday evening, to represent the parish of Gisborne in the Diocesan Synod which meets in Napier about the 21 st instant. Abolition Meeting.—The chairman of the Road Board announces that a public meeting will be held in the Court House Gisborne on Saturday next at 3 o’clock p.m. to take into consideration the Abolition measures now before the House of Representatives. It will do no harm, but it cannot do much good. Soibee.—The vestry of the Church of England in Gisborne have decided to entertain the Rev. Mr. Williams and his family at a soiree shortly after their arrival. A notification to that effect appears elsewhere; and we daresay the call that is therein made will be heartily responded to by the members of the congregation. The reverend gentleman is now at Napier, and wiU come on to Gisborne by the first eligible opportunity.
