Licensing Court. —The quarterly meeting of this Court takes place on the 7th proximo.

New Zealand Insurance.—Mr. W. Adair has been appointed Agent in Gisborne for this Society vice G. E. Read resigned. Auction Sale.—Mr. Hall will sell a choice assortment of fruit, trees, and sundries this day at 2 o'clock. Makaubi Block.—A meeting of all persons interested in the above named valuable estate was held yesterday at Higgins’ Hotel, Makaraka. We are informed that an amicable arrangement was come to relative to the sub-division, and that the mat ter is settled. We hear that Capt. Bead gets 600 acres (giving up certain shares) in oue block.

Divinb Services will be held to-morrow as follow : —Church of England : Holy Trinity Church, morning at 11, evening at 7. Presbyterian : St. Andrew’s Church, Gisborne, morning, 11, evening 6.-30, and Matawhero, 2.30, by the Rev. W. H. Root. Wesleyan : Ormond, at 11 a.m.; at Mn kauri, at 2.30 p.m.; and at the Court-house, at 6.30. p.m., by the Bev. Mr. Carr. Service will also be conducted in the Court House in the morning, at 11 o’clock.

Patents.—ln a Provincial Government Gazette we notice that Mr. William Fitzgerald Crawford,of Gisborne, has made application for letters patent for a floating dock to raise vessels by pumping air into the dock. Messrs. William Andrews, John Nankivell Thomas, and Walter William Wright, of Canterbury, have made application for letters patent for a machine for hedge clipping, to be driven by steam or horse power. R.M.’s Coubt.—ln this Court yesterday morning, Alexander Paton appeared in answer to an impromptu summons under the 33 clause of the Resident Magistrate's Act, —being about to leave the district—preferring a claim of £l6 Os 8d by W. Adair for gefods sold and delivered. Defendant acknowledged, on examination, that he bad recently sold some horses, for which he had received £l7, he had paid some accounts, and would do his best to pay the plaintiff’s account. It was ultimately arranged that he should pay one-half the amount into Court, and give satisfactory security for the remainder. Coubt House.—We arc glad to learn that Mr. W. Adair has completed the negotiation with Captain Bead for the purchase of the Court-house building. It is one of the most commanding situations in the town, and under the go-a-head spirit of its new proprietor cannot fail to be a commercial success. Mr. Adair contemplates making some extensive alterations in ills building which will be a great ornament to our street architecture, as also the means of putting an end to what has long been a public nuisance.
