CLERICAL SCANDAL.

LjM a L., Thutie has been a terrible clerical scandal in Anglesey, in the Diocese ..of Bangor, one of those occurrences ,which throw sad discredit upon the cloth in the minds of the ignorant and unthinking. A doctor in Beaumairis was called in the other day to attend a young lady who had taken lodgings in the place. She was accompanied by an elderly gentleman, a clergyman, presumably her husband. The lady was attended through her confinement, and one evening, the doctor having called professionally, was sitting by her side and in the act of feeling her pulse when the old gentleman came in and commenced an attack upon the doctor, accusing him of attempting to take improper liberties with his wife, The doctqr (a married man) expressed bis surprise and indignation, and said that he could only imagine his assailant to be drunk, and that he should call the next day and expect an ample apology. Accordingly, the ; next day he made his appearance, he first saw the young lady, who was in tears, and who (unasked) proceeded to make a dreadful She told the doctor, to bis astonishment and horror, that the reverend gentleman was not her husband, but her stepfather, and that he was the father of the child that had been born. An ample apology was made by the wretched father, whose parishioners however got to know of the reason for his absence from home for such a prolonged period, and, proceedings having been taken, the guilty couple disappeared, and have not since been heard of. — Waikato Times correspondent.
