Thb Ray of Plenty Times sayg :—The action instituted by Charles King, late Sergeant A. C. Force, against Messrs. Tunics, Bluett, and Edgcumbe, for false imprisonment, has we are pleased to learn, been amicably settled. Thb Otago Witness has been informed by Hori Kerei Taiaroa that he is calling a meeting of the Natives of Canterbury and Otago, to be held at the Otago Heads on the 24th May to consider what steps s ioukl be taken to secure the payment ef the £2,000,000 claimed by him in 1872, as compensation for the unfulfilled promises made to them bj r Colonel Wakefi Id, Mr. Kemp, and Mr. Mantel!. At the eeting it is intended to collect money for the purpose of defraying the expenses of sending certain of their number to England to petition the Crown and Parliament on the spot, and to request Mr. Mantell to go with them to advocate their claims.
