CHRISTCHURCH. April 23. A local sporting man has bet £250 to £5OO that he will find a horse in this province to beat Templeton, for 1| miles, weight for age. Rory O’More is supposed to be the horse meant, and the bet is subject to the owner of Rory O’More allowing him to run. WANGANUI. April 28. David Stewart Lyell, late Marton agent of the Bank of New Zealand, pleaded guilty to seven charges of embezzlement, and was sentenced to 6 years’ penal servitude. The judge expressed a hope that before his term expired, the law would be more appropriate.
