LADIES’ EXPRESS.

The Editor will be glad to give insertion to ting local contributions from his lady frienas that' may be considered- interesting in the family circle, or-to-the sex generally J] TRUST HIM NOT. If a man should come beside thee • With a smooth and specious air, And condone thy little evils With a voice all smooth and fair, And with honeyed accents show thee, j Things thou knowest are below thee, Though he weareth saintly garments, Trust him not. If a man with guile of flattery Would instil into thy heart Thoughts of self and* selfish action, To obscure the nobler part; Let thy judgment whisper to thee, He but seeketh to undo thee, Though his praises be as nectar, Trust him not. If a man with hollow canting Vaunteth much his own endeavor ; Bow he we *ps because the world is Full as wicked now as ever — By his own soul ’tis he juilgeth, And his narrow mind begrudgeth Heaven’s mercies to the many, Trust him not. Every evi', great or little, Soils the whiteness of thy soul— Flattering words, like hidden quicksands, May thy spirit over-roll; And where canting over-reaches, Let him practice whaL he preaches, ’Tis the lesson wisdom teaches— Trust him not. In the mine the gem is hidden ; There are pearls beneath the sea, And many a pretty flower Blooms unnoticed on the lea. Shun the rose, if V ice invite thee, '1 hough its fragrance may delight thee, There are serpents that- will bite thee— Trust them not.
