BIRTH.
Talker. —On the 16th inst., at Gisborne, the wife of Mr. J. Talker, of a daughter.
Our Future Pilot.—We learn that the Me 'cantile community are obtaining signatures to a requisition to the Superintendent, recommending Captain Fernandez for the appointment of Harbour Master and Pilot here. We are glad of this, for we still think that that gentleman has fared rather hard, if, a 3 staled th? A.S.P. Co. have dismissed him from their employ on account of the Pretty Jane’s disaster. Whatever imprudence may b* Attached to Captain Fernandez not being on board at the time of the disaster, there is not the slightest reflection on his character as an officer, or his capability as a seaman ; and we hope that the requisition will be numerously sign, i, aud ultimately successful.
