TESTIMONIAL to the LATE JOHN WILLIAMSON, ESQ.

PUBLIC MEETING-. A public meeting was held on the 12th inst. at the Mechanics Institute Auckland, for the purpose of considering what steps should be taken to recognise the services of the late John Williamson, Esq. There were about seventy persons present, the Mayor occupied the chair, and the following resolutions were passed :— “ That the inhabitants of the Province of Auckland be invited to co-operate with this meeting in gratefully acknowledging the services rendered to the colony, and more particularly this province, by the late John Williamson, Esq.” “ That this meeting is of opinion that the most suitable means of giving effect to the foregoing resolution will be by purchasing an annuity for Mrs. Williamson.” After which a committee was formed to carrythe resolutions into effect.
