POST OF POVERTY BAY ARRIVALS. MARCH. 11—Rangafira, s s-, from Napier and Wellington, with miscellaneous cargo. Passengers —Messrs. Harrison, Gill, Burnand, Wilson, Crawford, Logan, Holmes, and Hart. DEPARTURES. MARCH. 11 —Go-a-head, 8.8., for Auckland. Passengers — Messrs* Horsfall, W. and I. Gay, Wi Waikeri, and two ladies. 11—Rangntira, s.s., for Napier and Wellington. Passengers—Capf. Humphrey, Messrs. Mnrgoliouih, Price, Bettington, Ferguson, Brown, M. Boylan, H. Boylan, Maitland, Brunt, Ebbs, Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson and family.

We learn that Captain Kennedy, Harbourmaster and Pilot at the port- of Gisborne, has sent in his resignation to the Provincial Government. We have been requested to state on authority that the Rangatira beat, the Southern Cross on their last trip to Napier together, by two four* and three quarters, and not one and a-half, as we noted on Wednesday. The Tawera, schooner, whilom" hailing from this port, is reported to have taken fire in Mechanics Bay, and partially destroyed. She belongs to Archard and Brown, and is in for £BOO. The Pretty Jane finally left the bay last night for Auckland. The vessel steamed out well yesterday morn ing, and, if fine weather con-tinues Mr. Lodder is confident that the repairs which she has temporarily undergone will stand th? voyage. The greatest credit is due to all engaged in bringing her again afloat, and we hope soon to see the Jane return to take up Iter old running. While on this subject, we feel it our duty to refer to a report current here that Captain Fernandez is to be removed nut only from the command of the Pretty June, but from any further command in the Company’s service. The question, properly, is merely one as between master and servant; the Company have a right to take severe measures if they think that any officer in their employ been gui.ty of culpable neglect-, and, apart from that phase of the Pretty Jane’s accident in which the public are interested, wc are not supposed to have a voice ; but in that interest, and in the cause of manly, i?. p-.rtial. justice, we do hope that the mitigating circumstances, which should fully explain Captain Fernandez’ share in the matter, will have a favorable weight with the Company.
