Ohinemuri. — Telegrams announce that a proclamation for the opening of the Ohinemuri country as a gold field, was to appear on Wednesday morning last. The Ven. Archdeacon Williams was a passenger by the Rangatira on Thursday last from Napier, and will hold Divine Service in the Court-house, Gisborne, to-morrow evening. Superintendency. — Mr. Dargaville has signified his intention of opposing Sir George Grey for the Superintendental Chair. Mr. William Rowe, of the Thames is also being requisitioned to stand the election. Pound. —The Road Board advertizes for tenders for erecting and keeping a public pound for five months from the 15th of March. Query. W’hy months ? It begins nothing, and ends nowhere. Kaiteratahi Hotel.— This valuable property is in the market for private sale, together with 200 acres of freehold land, fenced in and divided into paddocks, and 50 head of eattle. This should be an attraction to the many capitalists seeking for investment in the district. Waihirere Block. —Mr. C. W. Ferris succeeded in getting this Block through the Court on very favorable terms last Tuesday. It contains 28 acres and is disposed of to the Government for £5O; valuable quarries arc looked forward to in this block, as the future source whence our supply of metal is to come. Combination Troupe. —We learn that this Company have broken up. Mr. and Mrs. Airec go to Wellington, and the remainder will proceed to Auckland in a few days. Mr. V’erletti is well worth seeing in his wonderful horizontal performances, and we are glad to sec that another entertainment will be given in the Music Hall to-night. The prices of admission are reduced to Is and 2s. Librarian. —We arc authorized to state that—notwithstanding Mr. Strong’s advertisement in yesterday’s Herald— the meeting of Library members convened for the election of a Librarian in the room of Mr. Strong, who, we learn, has resigned that office, will take place as originally advertized. It is a great pity that such unseemly altercations should take place between officers of a public institution. Divine Services. —To-morrow, by the Rev G. W. Russell, at Ormond at 11 a.m., Makauri at 3 p.m., and at the School House, Gisborne, at 7 p in., and at 11 a.m. as usual. By the Rev. W. H. Root, morning and evening, at St. Andrew’s Church, Gisborne, aud at Matawhero in the afternoon, at the usual hours. Ven. Archdeacon Williams, Court House, Gisborne, at 7 p.m.
