Artesian Well.—Subscribers to the above are requested to pay their subscriptions to the Makaraka artesian well, to Mr. T. M. Bryant. Gisborne Rifle Volunteers.—The usual monthly parade of this corps, takes place this evening at 5.30 punctually. Divine Services.—The Rev. Mr. Root will hold Divine Service to-morrow at Ormond in the morning, and at Gisborne in the evening, at the usual hours. Dissolution of Partnership.—Messrs. Bradley and Steggall give notice that they have dissolved the partnership hitherto existing between them as proprietors of the Albion Hotel. Mr. Bradley remains at the Albion, and Mr. Steggall announces that he has taken the Makaraka Hostelry, until recently occupied by Mr. Dalziell. We wish them both the success they deserve.

Vegetables. — A very fine sample of potatoes, turnips, and mangold, has been left at our office which were grown on Mr. Burgess’s farm at Waikanae. The mangold weighs just under 20lbs; a turnip weighs 71bs with a girth of 29 inches; and twelve of the potatoes weigh lOlbs ; not the largest ever grown verily, but they shew what the land will produce, and what a pity it is that they are not as plentiful aud as comeatable in the town as in the country. Hotel Properties.—The demand for public-house investment has had a lively manifestation lately, as we learn that both Mr. Blair of the Argyll, and Mr. Fisher of the Royal have disposed of their premises at satisfactory figures. Clearing Sale——Mr. W. Adair announces that haring taken over the stock an'd business lately carried on be Captain Read he will hold a great clearing sale for one month only, to make room for extensive alterations in the premises. We cordially welcome the new blood and enterprise now being infused into our business relations, and wish Mr. Adair the prosperity he seeks in his new undertaking. Tibbals’ Fibe.—We learn that the police are in possession of fresh information likely to throw some light on this mystery, but we are not at liberty to state the nature of it. If there be anything additional calculated to satisfy the public as to the cause of this calamity, a further hearing would certainly be acceptable.

WnAtAuPoKO.—Mr. B. R. Curtis, we are informed has increased his territorial possessions by purchasing Mr. Breingan’s interest in the Whutaupoko property. The house, at one time occupied by Mr. Wyllie, with about 20 acres of land, is advertized to let. Smith’s Combination TbouPb.—A very good house greeted this Company on Thursday evening last, when the performance passed off to the great delight of the audience. An afternoon performance will be given to-day at 3 o’clock, for the benefit of children and those living at a distance. In the evening an entire change will be given, which, being the last appearance of the Company, should draw a good house. Petroleum Company’s Meeting. — A general meeting of shareholders will be held in the Court House, Gisborne, on Friday the sth March, as per advertisement; the object of the meeting is not stated, which, we take the liberty of saying is a great mistake ; there can be nothing very private in the proceedings of a public company, and an intimation of the business would prepare shareholders for its reception.
