WAIROA.

(from oub own correspondent.) February 5, 1875. A so called improvement is being made at a bad place on the Kapu road, the bridge over the Hikawai creek has been pulled down, aud one near the level of the road been erected. In the meantime great difficulty is experienced through want of dray communication. This bridge appears, though to be the first attempt of its kind, that the men engaged thereon have ever made. It is rough, and decidedly unworkmanlike to look upon, I should advise those men to make one more exactly similar, and then retire to private life. The Te Kapu school meeting for the election of school committee for the current year did not take place on the date announced, for some reason or the other, it is to be held on the 10th instant.

The firing for the district (Volunteer) prizes is to take place on the 10th March at Clyde, Major Withers is expected to attend. A large runanga whare is approaching completion at Paul’s pah, it is intended for the use of Heuare Matua and his committee at some great meeting to be shortly given. The Defence Minister is expected to pay this place a visit on his return from the far north. Mr- J, G. Kinross, M.P.C., for Wairoa district, held a meeting of his constituents the other day, and received a unanimous vote of confidence. The return match, Armed Constabulary versus United District Club, is to be played on the 6th instant, (Saturday). The odds are strongly in favor of the former. Mr. Bonifant of the Wakaki station has received a nasty fall from his horse.
