Melbourne, December 30th. Leather : hides firmer. Preserved meals command improved rates ; beef |d advanced. A speculative demand for wheat is springing up. Cargoes afloat have been purchased at an improvement of 2s. to 3s. per quarter. New Zealand wheat is quoted at 16s to 50s per 496 lbs. New Zealand flax, in common with Manila hemp, is exceedingly dull. Small sales have been effected at from £l6 10s. to £2l, for g«xxl and clean sorts, any rise in value is out of the question. New York, December 7. Sales of New Zealand wool have been made at 53 cents ; sperm oil, 1 dol. 65 cents. ; whale. 60 cents, to 65 cents. San Francisco, December 8. t Sales of flour, 4dol. 50 cents, per 1961 bs. ; wheat, 1 dol. 50 rents. to 1 dol. 55 cents per cental; barky, Idol. 20 cents, to 1 dol. 25 cents.; for feed oats, 1 dol. 35 cents, to 1 dol. 60 cents. The Liverpool quotations for Californian wheat were, on December 7,9 s. lOd. to 10s. 7d. Auckland. The total export of gold the produce of the province,* during the past year, was 76,890 ounces, of the value of £292,486.
