CORRESPONDENCE.

[Oar columns are open for free discussion; but we do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions of our Correspondents ]

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —In your issue of Saturday, a letter appears signed “ King Bone," in which the Turf Club are somewhat roughly handled, but if not altogether, they at least deserve it, in part. The ground upon which they have decided to hold their meeting is indeed very rough and unshapely, and I feel certain that there is other and better ground at their disposal. The paddock near Mr. Dalziell’s, leased I believe by Mr. King, would as far as I can see be in every way preferable; and I dare say that gentleman would place it at their disposal for the short period required. 1 have also noticed a very nice spot owned by the natives near Mr. Hardy’s which already presents the appearance of half a Race Course, the other half requiring some work in clearing to complete the circle, and adjacent to which is a terrace commanding a fine view ; in all probability this might, be negotiated for as a permanent Race Course, and if so, the step, I think, would be advisable, as there is a doubt as to whether a sufficiently large block of the Patutahi will beset apart for that purpose, nor is it. in my opinion advisable to hold a Race Meeting upon that side of the river until the bridge is built and access thereby rendered at. all times certain.—l am, &c.,

One who is Fond of a Good Race.
