SHIPPING.

POET OF POVERTY BAY

ARRIVALS DECEMBER.

12— Effie Meikle, schooner, Schultze master, from Mercury Bay, with 28,000 ft. timber, 34,000 shingles and sundries. 13 — Result, s.s., Captain Baxter, from Auckland, with small cargo and sundries.

.DEPARTURES DECEMBER.

14— Result, s.s., Captain Baxter, for Napier,

in ballast. 15—Christina, schooner, Edwards, master, for the coast.

The screw steamer Result recently built in Auckland for Messrs. Baxter and Light, arrived in port on Sunday last on her way to Napier. She seems to be a handy little craft, a modification of which would suit this harbor admirably. She has a2O horse power high pressure engine, and made 9 knots on her trial trip. Mr. Light, who is at present acting as engineer, expects to work her up to 10 or 11 knots when he has the machinery in better order. Captain Baxter seems desirous of running the Result between Napier and Poverty Bay when the wool season is over, if sufficient inducement offers, so as to fill up the gap made by the alteration in the Rangatira’s visits. She steamed for Napier at 8 o’clock on Monday night.
