The abandonment of the Superintendent's trip to Englund has been positively announced.
The Marquis and Marchioness of Normanby are expected to arrive in Auckland by the Hero, duo on the 28ih.
The Auckland morning journals publish correspondence between the Superintendent and Governor, in which the latter declines to forward Sir George Grey’s petition on the land question to the Queen. The members of the scientific expedition in H.M.S, Challenger appear to be anything hut delighted either with the climate or people of Wellington, according to the Standard's correspondent on board. He says, “It was was with little regret we left the shores of New Zealand, being at this time of year (midwinter) a bleak and inhospitable place, void of amusements, and the residents showing but little of the hospitality and kindness recently experienced in Sydney.”
The Daily Southern Cross states that Sir G. . Grey will be a candidate for the first vacancy that may occur in the Houseof Representatives. It is presumed that he will lead lire Opposition against the Vogel Government.
