A large public meeting held recently in Auckland has passed a resolution urging the Government to devote £25,000 (being a grant voted to the province last session) to education, in lieu of the tax now being collected.

Mr.G. M. O Robke has joined the Provinciil executive, taking the office of Provincial Solicitor, rendered vacant by the death of Mr. Beveridge. Mr. O’Rorke does not lake the title, but it is understood, and he will continue to do solicitor’s work.
The Napier Telegraph says; “ The town of Napier that, not so long ago, had the reputation of being unable to supply decent hotel accommodation, now promise s to be the best off in this respect of any city in the colony. The proprietor of the Masonic, to keep pace with the wants of the public, is now enlarging his hotel, and the first addition to the building is nearly completed. When the whole of the alterations are effected, the Masonic will vie with ihe Criterion in its internal accommodation.
