DEPARTURES* NOVEMBER. 6—Luna, p.s., Captain Fairchild* for Wairoa and Nauicr.
LIVNCH.—It gives us unfeigned pleasure to record a most successful launch of Capt. Trimmer’s schooner “ Advance ” at Tologa Bay on Thursday last. She now rides at anchor in the river, and will be ready for sea in about a fortnight. No damage was done to her through the recent accident, which was caused from no fault whatever of the builder, Mr. Thompson, tvhose unwearied efforts have been a theme of general comment; and we congratulate both him and the spirited owner on the success which has so far attended their efforts. The Advance is GO tons measurement, with an overall length of 72ft; keel, 65ft. ; beam, 20ft; depth of hold, 6ft Gin ; with a carrying capacity of 110 tons, drawing only 6ft 6in as a full ship. She has a flushed roomy deck, with a neat, comfortable, cabin, although not intended to carry passengers; is copper fastened throughout, most faithfully built with heart of Kauri, Remu, and Kowhai. The Advance is built on the “ cen-tre-board ” principle ; and will be rigged ns a topsail schooner. She is a fine handy looking craft with good “ lines,” according to the opinions of those who have seen her in the Water, and, altogether, a great credit to all concerned in her building and fitting. We wish her success in the trade in which she will shortly be engaged. The Luna took no mail from Gisborne yesterday, Admiral Fairchild not condescending to look from the lofty binnacle of his floating castle into so small a place as the Gisborne Post Office. His excuse may be that he was bound for the Wairoa, which is simply no excuse at all, for, with but a fortnightly mail, the opportunity to communicate would have been acceptable had it been known. The sooner the gallant Admiral starts on his pleasure trip the better, two things always provided, that the colony don’t pay his expenses, and that he don’t come back again.
The Golden Crown has been sold by the A.S.P. Co. to Messrs. Copping and Anderson of Melbourne for £10,400. The Pretty Jane met with strong head winds on her passage to Auckland, having had to hug the shore the whole way. She, nevertheless, landed her cargo of live stock without the loss of a single head. The Jane left Auckland last Monday, but was detained for a few hours in the Bay of Plenty to repair machinery, &c. She leaves for Napier this evening.
