ORMOND SOIREE.
The Soiree, as announced, in aid of the Ormond School building, came off on Thursday evening last, in the Garrick Club Theatre at. Ormond. In consequence of the fine weather a large number of visitors from Gisborne were present, and there was a goodly gathering of settlers from all parts of the Bay. Everything, we are happy to say, passed off merrily, and the whole affair mav be pronounced in reporting parlance, “a great success,” that is, if we may judge by the number of happy faces that thronged the tea tables, and the enjoyableness that seemed to pervade the company in discussing the good things provided for them. After _ tea preparations were made for the musical part of the entertainment, the whole of which seemed to give great satisfaction. Several songs, and other musical compositions, were, rendered in a style which called forth repeated encores, a fact which may generally bo said to prove that an audience is well pleased. We congratulate the Ormond settlers on the result of their exertions, and regret that the lateness of the hour will “not admit of a fuller report.
