Auckland, October 17. Me. BuczkAND reports : —At the Haymarket on Friday last fodder offered equal to requirements, but the demand at this season is almost nominal; prices ruled from 6s to 7s 3d per cwt. Horse stock offered in usual numbers, but bidding was dull throughout the sale, and prices were lower. Prices obtained wer : — Heavy draught, £4O to £45 ; strong, riding, and light harness horses, £l7 to £3O ; riding horses, £7 to £l5 each.—The sale of skins and hides held on Friday was well attended by rhe trade, and all lots fairly competed for. Skins brought 4s to 5s 8d each ; fresh hides, 3|d the
lb; salted hides, 4d to 4|d the lb.— At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows were in moderate numbers only and fair enquiry. Stere cattle unusually abundant; 100 head held over for next sale, there being no pens for them. Late prices were fully sustained : fat cattle, in full numbers, 161 head sold, prices lower, 2s 6d to 5s the lOOlbs. Store sheep, in moderate numbers, and in demand; fat sheep short of average supply, and in demand at a slight advance in values* Pigs scarce, and at extreme prices. Lambs plentiful, but many of small size, all at lower value than last week. For the shorthorn cattle advertised there was good competition : prices obtained were, dairy cows, from £6 to £11; calves, 25s’ to 40s; yearlings, 50s; 2-year-old steers, £3 LOs to £5 ; 3-year-old steers, £5 5s to £6 10s; 4-ycar-old, £6 10s to £B. Working oxen, £2B the pair. Best fat cattle, 40s to 45s to lOOlbs ; • ?cond quality, 35s the lOOlbs. Ewes, with lambs at side, 24s to 26s ; shorn hoggets, Ss 6d to 14s each ; fat sheep, shorn, 4d per lb ; in <their wool, sd; best lambs, 13s to 18s; inferior, fro n9s each. Fat calves, 16s to 50s each. Well-bred small-sized pigs, 5d per lb.
Melbourne, October 8. Bread stuffs are firm. Flour has been sold at up to £l3, and wheat at 6s 3d ; oats are in good request at 5s 3d to 5s 4d. Hops still sell pretty freely at full rates, New Zealand are quoted at Is Id ; Devoe’s kerosine, sold Is 2d for fine ; Hennessy’s pale brandy, 9s, showing a decline. London, October 6. The wool sales have closed. A firm tone of advance was maintained throughout the series. The bulk was bought by home buyers, but 120,000 bales were taken for export, including 4,000 for America. The next sales are fixed for the 17th November. Bahne & Co., brokers, report that the prospects are favorable, and estimate the increased import during the year at 100,000 bales. An advance in the rate of . discount is expected. A full fall of 2s a quarter on English wheat has taken place. Adelaide is quoted at 52s to 54s ; New Zealand, 42s to 495; Tasmania, 48s to 51s.
