METEOROLOGICAL.

14th to 20th October. The weather has, at last, taken a very much needed change to mild, from the north and north-east. We have had on the whole a wet, cold winter and a harsh unseasonable spring. Lately, cold, southerly winds with hail, alternated with strong, drying, westerly gales. Farmers complained that vegetation of all kinds was very backward, and that fruit and other trees in exposed places had their young leaves withered and frostbitton. The westerly winds bring an almost intolerable nuisance of sand and dust on the town. With the excepsion of one day’s dusty N.W. weather, easterly gales and rains have prevailed since this day week ; the country decidedly has improved in consequence, and there is a chance now that young crops will do well. Yesterday was set fair, with every appearance of a continuance.
