AUCKLAND -GROWN WHEAT IN ENGLAND.
The following letter is clipped from the Hew Zealand Herald:—
Sir, —We are frequently told that wo cannot grow wheat in the province of Auckland ; and I have often stated that I have never seen in my experience a class of wheat equal to what is grown in the province of Auckland for making a good bag of flour. On the departure of the Hindostan lust year, Captain Peek kindly agreed to take a small bag of wheat for me to London, addressed to lite care of the New Zealand Mercantile Agency Company ; and I asked them to submit it to eminent cornfactors and millers iu Loudon, and to send me their report of the quality of our wheat. The small bag of wheat sent was grown at Poverty Bay. By this mail I have received the annexed report, which you will oblige me by publishing for general information. I may state that it is valued at the highest rate in the London markets; and when we have a surplus to export, our farmers may look forward to their wheat bringing a higher rate than even Adelaide. —I am, &e., John Lamb. [Copy of Report.] “59, Mark-lane, E. 0., London, May 20 3874. —Hindostan.—John Lamb, Esq., Auckland. We hare shewn samples of this win at to several millers, and value same to-day, if here in bulk, at 62s per496lbs. This description is more adapted to our Yorkshire buyers, than to our own, as it is large, round, and white in coloui, although weak. It would, however, command attention here. We think some Loudon buyers would take it in pref -rcnca to Adelaide; others would not. (Bigt:eJ,t, Horse, Sos & Mclnnes.”
