THE STORM KING.

(original.) For Music. The Storm King rides upon the blast Through his wide empire of the air ;

His mantle o’er the sky has cast Ils leaden shadow everywhere. Destruction follows in his course, The lightnings flash where falls his eye ; While from his throat in accents hoarse, The thunder peals in echoes fly. But grim he smiles at tottering piles, And yells amid the ruin made ; And quick he speeds to other deeds— To wreck a craft or thin a glade.

His fiendish imps, borne on the clouds, Discordant howl amid the gale ; They dart upon the straining shrouds, They crack each cord, they rend each sail. They lightly dance upon the wave, They quicker urge the furious sea, Till tremble'seamen’s hearts so brave, And bending masts go by the lee, As lightnings flash and thunders clash They revel in the ruin made ; Their shrieks and yells, in louder swells, The Night’s dominions dark invade !

The Storm King rides o’er sea and land. On, On! the tempest is his breath ; So great the might of his strong hand He havoc spreads around, and death. He urges fust, he urges fleet, And none can stay his dread career ; Till spent his strength, his rage complete, He leaves the sky serene and clear. In pent up caves he fumes and raves, Till bursting forth again he pours, With fresh-gained pow’r, his storm and show’r, And wages elemental wars I F.J.P. Gisborne, September, 1874.
