PORT OF POVERTY BAY. ARRIVALS. SEPTEMBER. 9— Government p.s. Luna, Capt. Fairchild, from Napier and Wellington. Passengers— The Hon. G. R. Johnson, M.L.C. and Mrs. Johnson, Miss Skipworth, Major Ropata, the Hon. Mr. Mokena, Mr. Parsons, Mr. did not arrive in Auckland' until Tuesday last, occupying four days on! the passage up. She is expected to 4 return from Auckland to-day. We le£rn that Capt. Read is loading the Julius Vogel at Dumxiin for this market, and j will arrive in port during next week. The Luna brought a small mail, but refused to take one away ; she comes to this port next week after her return from the Manakau with Mr. Vogel. The s.s. Southern Cross steamed from Napier for the Thames and Auckland at Ip.m. on Tuesday last with a cargo of 60 head of cattle and 240 sheep. The Rangatira-had a boisterous passage from Wellington to Napier, but she made up for it on her passage thence to this port, having left Napier at 1.30 am. on Thursday morning and arriving in the roadstead at 10.30 a.m., thus making the run between port and port in 9 hours. We have to thank Mr. Doherty, the purser, for prompt delivery of files. The repairs to the steamship Macgregor at Sydney after her mishap in Kandavau harbor, cost no less a sum than £12,000.

It is stated that by the new arrangement with the P. and O. Company, under which their mail vessels will pass through the Suez Canal, not only will twenty hours be saved in the time of the transit of Ihe mails, but the cost will be less by £24,000 per annum. An Adelaide telegram, dated 29th August, states that the immigrant ship City of Adelaide stranded in ten feet of water, at Henly Beach. The passengers werelanded safely. London, 15th August.—Arrived : Glenlora, from Wellington ; Lady Jocelyn, from Melbourne; Gowan, Jungfrau, and Star of the North. 18th August.—Arrived : Warwick, Harvest Home, Earl of Mar, and Rellie Java. Auckland, September 5.

The Miltiades’ salvage claim has been settled by the consignees paying £1,314 and the •hip £482. The award of £1,625 to Captain Casey is divided as follows: —Casey, £943 ; legal expenses, £125 ; Owen and Grahame, £Bl 5s ; crew of the Lady Bowen, £475.

The New Zealind Herald of the 2nd instant says.—The keel of a new screw steamer of about 40 tons register has just been laid down at the North Shore by Messrs. W. Holmes and Aicken. She is to the order of Messrs. Baxter and Light, of Napier, and will be similarly constructed to the Bella, built here some time ago, for Napier. The City of Auckland arrived from London, after a passage of 107 days, with 30 passengers. One child died. She experienced terrific weather during the latter part of the passage, and had every sail that was set blown out of the ship. September 8. Arrived : —Oxford, ship, from London, with 45° immigrants, all well. The voyage occupied 92 days, six infants died on the passage, from whooping cough and bronchitis.
