Divine Service.—The Rev. G. W. Russell, Wesleyan Minister, will hold Divipe Service in the Music Hall, on Sunday, morning and evening, and at Makouri in the afternoon, at 2.30.

Omission.—The hours at which Mr. W. 8. Greene’s A action sales commence to-day are, at the Mart at 12 o’clock and at Higgin’s yards at 2 o’clock, an omission from the advertisement which requires an apology. Appointment of Pilot.—The Superintendent announces in the Provincial Government Gazette that he has appointed Captain Joseph Kennedy to be Pilot of the Port of Poverty Bay. Captain Marks and Captain Davis have also been appointed Pilots at Tauranga and Wangaroa respectively. The Rev. Mr. Murphy.—We regret to learn that the Rev. Mr. Murphy is very ill, having been confined to his bed for some days with gastric fever. The Rev. gentleman will not, therefore, hold Divine Service at Ormond and Gisborne, as we announced on Wednesday lust. The Rev. Mr. Root will conduct the services, in the Court-house, to-morrow both morning and evening. Petroleum Co’s Manager.—We observe that the ship Splendid has arrived at Dunedin from New York with Mr. Parsons, the Manager of the Poverty Bay Petroleum Company on board. The Directors have been advised of the fact by telegrams, and the next steamer from the South will, doubtless, bring him up to the scene of his future labors.

Ship Traffic.—As an instance of the amount of shipping that passes up and down the coast, Mr. D. Munn, who arrived in town on Thursday from his place at the Waitotara, informed us that during the last month no less than 38 vessels, large and small, were observed by him ; this number includes ten steamers. On Wednesday last he observed one large ship, two brigantines, and three schooners, all steering North. Dainty Artel.—Mr. Caulton has become the purchaser of this thorough-bred entire which has gained so favorable a reputation in Hawke’s Bay. The horse arrived in the Rangatira on Thursday and can be seen at the Combcrmere station. Mr. Caulton also imported by same opportunity two brood mares, with which to improve the draught blood in the Bay. Constabulary Promotions. —By recent Government Gazettes we are glad to see that the promotions which have been so tardy in their coming fave at last been made. FirstClass Sub-Inspector W. A. Richardson, has been promoted to the rank of First-Class Inspector. Second-Class Sub-Inspector C. W. Ferris, to First-Class Sub-Inspector, and Sergeant-Major C. I). Bennett to Second-Class Sub-Inspector. These three officers have only received the reward which long and faithful service to the Colony justly entitled them to, and we congratulate them, cordially. Fur Exhibition. — Mr. Benjamin who arrived per Rangatira from Napier on Thursday, has opened his exhibition of Australian Furs and Fancy goods, in the sample rooms next to the Masonic Hotel. In all shapes, colors, sorts and sizes, comprising Native Cat, Wallaby, Kangaroo, Opossum and other skins’ tastefully made into coats, rugs, caps, vests and many other articles of domestic utility, the proprietor is evidently prepared to satisfy the taste of the most fastidious. We recommend an early inspection.
