Government Notices.—A recent Provincial Gazette contains a notification that Messrs G. E. Read, S. C. Caulton, S. Parsons, John Breingan, and A. F. Hardy (Chairman) have been elected members of the Poverty Bay District Highway Board, and that A. F. Hardy and W. H. Tucker have been elected Auditors to the said Board for the ensuing year.
Education Rate.—Notice is given by the Superintendent that the Education rate for 1874, namely: A household rate of 20s, and a rate of 10s for every male person of 21 years and upwards residing in the province, is payable to R. B. Lusk Esq., at the Provincial Treasury at Auckland on the 14th of September next.
Panorama.—We remind parents and others that the Panorama of the Arctie Regions will be on view in the Court-house this evening. Mr. Brooks, the Secretary to the Sunday School Union, will superintend the exhibition. The Panorama has been a great success in Auckland, and will, doubtless, prove so here. Presbyterian Church.— We are glad to learn that the Bev. H. Root is enabled to fix the date for the opening of his new Church. We believe Sunday the 20th of September is the day fixed for the opening service, and on Monday the 21st a-soiree will be held in the Music Hall, of which, doubtless, full particulars will be given. The Choristers who are to take part in the service are steadily practising for the occasion ; and we doubt not, the ceremony will be an imposing one. Apropos of this auspicious event, it is gratifying to see the hearty co-operation anil kindly feelings that exist between the clergymen of every denomination iu this township. As a proof of this, it is currently reported that the Rev. Mr. Root is favorable to his new Church being occupied on alternate Sundays by the Rev. Mr. Murphy, each affording to the other an opportunity of ministering in the country districts. This will be a great boon to the Episcopalian body as an extra expense would have to be undertaken in the providing temporary sitting and other accommodation in the place of that taken from the Court-house.
