Church Sbbvice. —The Rev. W. H. Root will (D.V.) hold service as follow, on Sunday next. In the morning, at Ormond, at 10 30, and in the afternoon at Matawhero, at 2.30. Erratum. — The advertisement which appeared in our columns on Saturday last announcing the dividend declared by the Union Rank of Australia to 30th June last, a typographical error occurred, for which we apologise. The rate of the dividend is fourteen ppr centum per annum, and not twelve as stated. The Clutha Leader.—Such is the name of the last new journal, issued weekly at Balclutha. We acknowledge the receipt of the first three numbers, and congratulate the proprietors on the evident success of their enterprise. The Leader is studded with advertisements ; it contains much valuable extract and original matter useful to country settlers ; and in the Editoral Column of the first number, we are assured that the Leader “ shall fully and creditably represent the Clutha and adjacent districts amongst the newspapers of the Colony.” Meeting or Shareholders.—We beg to remind our readers that the annual meeting of Shareholders in the Poverty Bay Petroleum Company will take place to-day in the Courthouse, Gisborne at 2 o’clock. The .Directors having (unlike another local body we could name) adopted the wise and business-like precaution of publishing the affairs of the Company before-hand, Shareholders will be prepat eil to solicit information upon any particular quest ion, without unnecessary unpleasantness and waste of time.

Gisborne Dramatic Club. —We regret exceedingly to learn that a disruption has taken place amongst the members of this Club, which, unless considerable tact, and esprit de Corps, are shown, will lead to a probable dissolution, or, at least, an indefinite delay. We have heard several rumors which profess to trace the disruption to a certain cause ; but, in the best interests of the Club, we forbear to make them public, as also in the hope that a reconsideration of the position of affairs will uid effectually in permanently restoring the Club to. its proper position in public favor. It has reached us also that the interim manager, Mr. C. A. Bettington, purposes resigning his newly-accepted office, in consequence, as it is alleged, of want of proper support. This, if correct, is much to be regretted, as a man of Mr. Bettington’s calibre cannot well be spared; and we earnestly trust matters will be satisfactorily settled at the meeting to-night. In view of what- may be a possibility, we deem it our duty to ask the members, one and nil, to reflect on the consequences of an untimely dissolution. The Club stands pledged to certain of its subscribers, who have paid their subscriptions in advance, to give a certain number of entertainments us an equivalent for the money paid. To suspend then, prematurely, the action of the Club by a schismatic desertion front its ranks, would be a great breach of faith which we desire to see prevented. The Dramatic Club is fast rising in public favor; there are many established favorites on its roll of performers, nnd it would be a great loss to the Buy not to possess the means of those enjoyable amusements, to which the settlers look forward to with pleasure. We hope to be able to inform our readers that the little difficulty has been settled amicably.
