Passengers— Bishop Williams, Miss Williams, Mr. Mid Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Parsons, Muster and Miss'Parsons, Miss Morton, Mr. Hastie, and others. DEPARTURES. JULY. 14— Pretty Jane, M., Captain Palmer, for Auckland. - „

Tnn schooner Saucy Lass sailed for Auckland from Napier last Friday. The Luna was to leare Napier on Sunday last for Wellington. Ths ship Winchester left London, for Napier direct, on the 2nd May, haring on board 432 souls, <* equal to 340 statute adults. A sea race between the three well-known steamers, Rangatira, Star Of the South, and I Luna, took place on the last run up from Wellington to Napier, and much interest was exhibited, and many bets, ranging as high as £5O were taken, on. the result of the event. The Star of the South left Wellington at. 3.30 p.m., tile Riiiigßlira at 5.15 pan, and the Luna at 6 p.ni. on Wednesday ; the differences in tile hours of departure being reckoned a very fair haO'llcikp on the respective steam powers of the vessels. The Star of the South, hjowevert had I he. advantage of being thoroughly clean having only been a week off the slip ; the. Raugutira. on the other baud, had about three inches of “ grass ” clinging to, her bottom, but as againsty his Captain Lloyd’s coastal knowledge was deemed a fair set off. The Rangatira passed the Star of the South during th night, and at daybreak on Thursday morning had left her eight miles astern. The steamers arrived nt, Napier in the following order —Bangatir*i at 5 p.m., Star of the South at 7 pm., Luna at 9 p.m. It. will thus be seen th’nt the Rongalins made the passage in 23J hours. The weather was favorable —a suipoth sen, and fair wind.—Napier I'elqgraph.
