THE £50 RIFLE MATCH.

'Bk'S or PLENTY VOLUNTEER CAVALRY V. POVERTY BAY VOLUNTEER RU'LES. The Opotiki correspondent of the of Plenty Times,' thus writes: — “ This match appears likely to produce more complications and vexatious delay. The B.P.V C. staked their money with the Resident Magistrate, and, according to previous agreement, fired on the appointed day under the supervision of the Magistrate and Sergeant Mason, of the A. C. Force ; previous to firing, they forwarded a letter and telegram to the Poverty Bay team, being a formal acceptation of their proposition to fire on the aforesaid day, and now, after waiting for three weeks for a reply, they receive one, stating that their letter and telegram had not been received, and that they have not fired. It is a singular thing, that only about one in five of the letters despatched from the B.P.V.C. to P.B.V.R. ever appears to reach them, while eveiw one they have written to us has duly arrived. If the P.B.V.R.’s are desirous to break off the match, it is a pity that they do not acquaint us of intention, and so save us devotiMjm valuable time to firi iuz - iwijnMmV matches, and leaving other legitimate employment. T place these facts to give the public .opportunity of .dMwiiag tbe’*’ owal^dhcTußion s ; and least the P.B.V.R.’s eftn do after all their talk, is cither to fireM once, or forward a plain refusal
