GOOD TEMPLAR’S PRAYER.

We extract the following from the Auckland Evening Star with pleasure, and we are glad to acknowledge the manliness of that journal in expressing a doubt as to the propriety of inserting the original “ prayer.” The Star says :—

“At the meeting of the Good Samaritan Lodge last evening the following resolution was unanimously agreed to relative to the 'Good Templar’s Prayer,’ which appeared in our paper ou the 26th inst. We have been furnished with a copy by Mr. O. Lewis, W.S. :—

"That this lodge deeply deplores the publication of the document purporting to be a Good Templar’s Prayer, which was published in the Evening Star of the 26tli inst., as the language employed therein tends to the injury of the 1.0.G.T. It not only tries to lower a prominent member of the order in the estimation of his brethren, but profanes the name of Almighty God. This lodge considers the document in question an attack upon the noble order of which we are members, and therefore each lodge is, in our opinion, in duty bound to repudiate it, and further, as some of the dealers in intoxicating liquors in Auckland have had the pseudoprayer printed and circulated for the purpose of casting odium upon the order it behoves all Good Templars to express their detestation of the said document, and to aid in the expulsion of its author from the roll of membership of the 1.0.G.T.” The lodge voted a special permission to have the foregoing resolution published.”
