We cannot understand the meaning of the advertisement which, under the authority of ihe Board of Education, call.® for Tenders from persons de-irous of leasing any of the Rural or Suburban Educational Reserves in the province. And we give our reasons for not being able to understand it. First: Because we cannot conceive under what law the Education Board takes upon itself to administer these reserves. Second: Because “tendering” is an unsatisfactory method of leasing the Public Estate. Third: Because it does not state why Town Reserves are not included. Fourth: Because the notice is too short. Fifth: Because it is simply impossible to refer “for further particulars” to the Board in Auckland, and to tender before the 31st March. Sixth : Because it is proposed to lease up to 21 years, whereas the Superintendent can only grant leases for “ three years,” unless under Act of the Provincial Council. The whole thing seems to be so very like poking fun at outlying districts, that we cannot seriously believe the Provincial Government has anything to do with the matter. If so, we trust that our remarks will provoke an explanation on the points raised.
