COLONIAL ITEMS.
(from the anglo-australian press agency) AUCKLAND. March 12'. Sullivan has been removed from Mount Eden Gaol, awaiting a favorable chance of shipping him away. The Governor of Queensland has requested the Governments of other colonies to stop immigration to the Pa.mer River. The Anazi enquiry is proceeding. The evidence taken goes to show the intoxication of the captain, and sobriety of the officers. The captain admits taking spirits, but denies the charge of drunkenness. WELLINGTON. March 12. The s.s. Mongol arrived this morning from the South. The demands of the journeyman bakers have been acceded to, and the Co-operative Company has been abandoned. No bodies have yet been recovered from the late wrecks. Mr. Hartmann, the late manager of the New Zealand s.s. Company, was entertained at a dinner last night, and presented with a purse of sovereigns. The firm of Brogden and Sons have made arrangements for the importation to New Zealand of 60,000 railway sleepers. Mr. Blundell, the late proprietor of the Evening Post, was ent, rtained at dinner by his friends last night, prior to his departure for America and Europe, per Mongol. The wreck of the barque Cyrus was sold today for £35 ; and the Wellington for £3l. The charge against the captain of the Mongol, for a breach <•* the Passengers’ Act, was dismissed after a -ong examination. DUNEDIN. Small pox of a decided character has appeared in at least one case on the quarantine island amongst the Scimitar’s passengers. Several were known to be previously suffering from variola.
