BOAT AND YATCH CLUB.
k. public meeting with Mr. C. D. Berry in the Chair, was held in the Masonic Hotel on Wednesday evening last having for its object the formation of a Boat and l atch Club, and we are glad to announce with most complete success. The resolution affirming the desirability of forming such a Club was carried unanimously. Twelve gentlemen subscribed their names, and it was further resolved :— Ist “ That the Club do consist of an unlimited number of subscribing members.” 2nd “ That the entrance fee be fixed at £1 Is, and subscriptions at 5s per quarter payable in advance.” Mr. Piesse consented to act as Secretary pro tern. It was also agreed that, all the members enrolled that evening should interest themselves as much as possible with a view to ascertaining the probable strength of the Club at the adjourned meeting, which it will be seen is fixed to take place on Wednesday evening next. A vote of thanks to the Chairman, brought the meeting to a close. It gives us great pleasure to record the above satisfactory result of this meeting. The effect this manly recreation has upon the physique and health of those who participate in it, is invaluable, while it affords a capital opportunity for young men to develop their manhood in, at once, a noble and a national pastime. We believe several gentlemen have signified their intention since the meeting, of becoming members. It is to be hoped that a good attendance will be secured on Wednesday evening as a President, Captain and Officers are to be elected and rules passed. We wish the Club every success.
