[By Submarine Cable via Australia.] MR. GLADSTONE RESIGNED. DISRAELI FORMING A NEW GOVERNMENT. Hokitika, February 28. Arrived. —At 4 p.m. yesterday, Claud Hamilton from Melbourne. She left Port Philip on the 21st, and brings 24 saloon and 50 steerage passengers, and 300 tons of cargo for all ports, and one racehorse for Wellington. London, February 12. Out of 604 elections the Conservatives gained 92, and the Liberals 32 seats. Two Conservative candidates have been relumed for Middlesex; the former Liberal member, Viscount Enfield, was defeated. February 16. About 200 new members have been returned, including 44 Home Rulers. The Conservative reaction is universal, especially in Scotland, Lancashire, Middlesex, and Sussex. The Right Hon. George Young, the Lord Advocate of Scotland, was defeated at Wigton. A most disastrous fire has occurred at the Pantechnicon, Nolcombe-street, Belgrave Square, establishment for the sale of carriages, and the warehousing of property. Pictures valued at £250,000, and much valuable furniture has been destroyed. The Emperor of Austria lias been most cordially received at St. Petersbuig. The Czar, in drinking his guest’s health, said that the friendship of Austria, Russia, Germany, and England, guaranteed the peace of the world. February 17. The colonial wool sales opened this evening. The total arrivals are upwards of 160,000 bales ; upwards of 5,500 are offered. There is a good attendance of both home and foreign buyers; biddings commenced with great, spirit, and prices range the same as last sales. February 19. The Queen has accepted Mr. Gladstone’s resignation, and Mr. Disraeli has engaged to form a new Ministry. The elections are concluded, the returns showing 351 Conservatives, and 302 Liberals. Cardwell, Chichester Fortescue, and Viscount Enfield will be raised to the peerage. The King of the Sandwich Islands is dead.
