NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.
A correspondent writes that, great indignation has been expressed at the charges contained in “ Uawa’s” letter which appeared in our columns some time since relative to the conduct of European residents in the settlement of Tologa Bay, and that “ Uawa’s” statements are rejected as utterly false. We regret this exceedingly. We are at the ent ire mercy of correspondents who favor us from a distance. The contributions of those who live near at hand we have some control over, and, as a rule wo make it our business to become as well acquainted with the correctness of their statements as the supposed omniscience of an Editor will allow. Correspondents living beyond our immediate reach should remember, that in our desire to promote the interests of the public, by unhesitatingly inserting bona fide communications, they commit a double wrong in taking advantage of our confidence. In justice to “ Uawa,” however, we offer him an opportunity of corroborating the statements contained in his letter, and we certainly expect that he will either do so, or make ample retractation.
