R.M.'s COURT—GISBORNE.
Thursday, February 12, 1874. [Before W. K. Nesbitt, Esq., R.M.] Boland v. Hamon. —Claim, £5 o*. 10d., debt. No appearance of either party. Onion* v. Donaldson.—Claim, 155., iron work supplid for a sledge. Judgment for plaintiff. Collin* v. Te Nawa—Assault.—No appearance of plaintiff. Case dismissed. Mullooly v. Atarea Miro Miro.—Claim, £6, amount of promissory note. Judgment confessed. Dempsey v. Pritchard. —Claim, 155., one day’s labor. Judgment for plaintiff, 10s. Mullooly v. Tahanra—Debt. —Judgment summons, £6 12s. 6d. No appearance of defendant. Strong v. Cuff.—Claim, £1 ss. 6d., subscription* and fines alleged to be due to the Turanga Library, of which plaintiff is Librarian.—Defendant said he had given notice of a discontinuance of membership some time since (which plaintiff acknowledged), but had paid the fines claimed, amounting to 15s. 6d., into Court. Some considerable argument took place between Mr. Wilson, who appeared for plaintiff, and defendant, the former claiming that an acknowledgment of the fines carried with it the responsibility of membership. The Magistrate, however, could not see the matter in that light, and gave judgment for 15s. and costs of summons only; plaintiffs to pay hearing and judgment. Makaore v. Paora Parau.—Claim. £l9. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. Regina v. Te Hata.—Prisoner was brought up on information made by Sergeant Shirley of the A.C., for having feloniously taken away a cheque the value of £49 19s. Id., the property of one Tamati Paenga.—Remanded until Monday next.
