TURANGA LIBRARY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— ln answer to “ Striver’s ” letter in the Herald of February 5, I may distinctly say he has striven hard to make the public believe he lias found a mare’s nest and I congratulate him that he has succeeded. I can simply say the endeavors made to furnish a reading public with a well assorted collection to meet all tastes has been no easy matter, and the Committee pride themselves upon their present catalogue which will shortly appear in the usual printed form, comprising a rather larger list than “ Striver ” wishes to convey. . . Supposing “ Striver will kindly undertake the management of the branch proposed, the Committee will readily entertain his suggestions. Hitherto I may say Ormond settlement has not contributed much to our support, but if “ Striver ” can shew how (or obtain) a sufficient number of subscribers can be got to establish a branch there, there will be no difficulty in his realising the desire expressed. ff Striver” will call to his memory the fact that a branch was started at Ormond, and that the principal support given was from the A.C.’s, (who have since established a good Library for themselves, and who are now independent of the Gisborne Library) he must acknowledge that the interests of the country settlers have been carefully considered by the Committee. —I am, &c„ Librarian,
