ORMOND SCHOOL MEETING.
A meeting of the inhabitants of Ormond was held on Monday, the 2nd February, Air. P. Barrie in the ehair, when the f 11 >wing report of the School Committee was read and agreed to : — REPORT: “On the election of the present Committee in July last, the Chairman wrote to the Secretary of the Board of Educa*ion in Auckland requesting a definite answer as to what amount of money the Board intended to give towards the erection of a school in Ormond, and received in answer the promise of £5O, on 't'f fins“ promise the Committee, having about £75 in hand, got plans prepared, and called for tenders, which proved to be considerably beyond the means of the Committee, consequently none of them were, accepted. The Committee, unwilling to reduce the size of the building, found that by purchasing ih? materials themselves, and calling fur tenders for labour only, it would be possible to get it put up cheaper than by ereoptiug for the waole, but thought it b st to leave it for the new Committee to carry tnis plan into operation. The bu.iJiug proposed to be erected consists of a scaool-room 28 feet x 20feet, entrance p >rc;i, 12 feet x 8 feet, and two rooms for the teacher, 14 feet by 12 feet, and 14 feet by 8 feet. It is expected that on completion of the building, there will be some £W or £'4J debt on it; the Committee, however, are confident that the inhabitants of the district will not let them be losers thereby, but will assist them to the utmost; more especially as the ladies, under the leadership of Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Bousfield, are proposing to get up an entertainment in aid of the building fund.” The following gentleman were elected as a Committee for the ensuing year:— Messrs. Barrie (Caairman), J. Breingan (Treasurer), Bousfield (Secretary), El bourne, Murphy, McKenzie, and C. Cowan. Af er a vote of thanks to the chair, the meeting adj turned.
