PORT OF POVERTY BAY. High Water. January 29. — 2.52 a.m.; 3.12 p.m. „ 30.— 3.51 a.m.; 4.1 G p.m. ARRIVALS. JANUARY. 29—Murray, n.s., Captain Palmer, from Napier. Ths Opotiki is ready for sea, and will sail probably to-day. The Colonist schooner from Napier to Auckland put in to the Bay on Tuesday, windbound ; she sailed again yesterday morning. The Paterson was in Napier loading for the South when the Colonist left. The Pretty Jane had arrived in Napier with the remainder of the Oil Spring plant, which she landed for transhipment to this port, she was taking in a cargo of sheep for Auckland direct.
The Colonist reports having seen a steamer off Table Cape on Tuesday morning about daybreak, under canvas, and steering into Hawke’s Bay. No known steamer being bound in that direction, it is surmised that the Rangatira broke down, and was returning to Napier for repairs. The Rangafira on the other hand was not reported as about to leave Wellington when the Colonist left Napier on Saturday.
