To be under Turf Club Rules. 3. Turanga Stakes of 30 sovs., and entrance of £3 3s. each added. Handicap. Entries close at 8 p.m. on the night of Bth January, 1871; weights to be declared by January 22nd, 1874 ; acceptances on January 27th, 1874; half forfeit; distance: three miles. Fee and qualification to accompany entry. 4. Hack Race of 5 sovs., post entrances of 10s. each added; catch weights; distance : half mile heats. 5. Railway Stakes of 15 sovs., entrances added ; weights for age ; one mile and a distance. Second Day, 29tii January. 1. Hurdle Race of 25 sovs., entrances added ; weight for age ; over 7 flights of hurdles of 3ft. Gin. high ; distance: about two miles. 2. Flying Stakes of 10sovs.,entrances added ; catch weights ; distance : half mile heats. 3. Ladies Purse of 25 sovs., entrances added; welter weights for age; professional riders 71b. extra; distance : two miles. 4. Consolation Handicap of 15 sovs., post entry of one pound each add cd, for all beaten horses at this meeting ; distance: one mile aud a distance. 5. Forced Handicap of all winners at this meeting. 2| per cent, deducted from winnings, with 5 sovs., added. Entrance compulsory of one guinea each; losing horses optional; post entry ; distance: one mile and a half.
Handicaps to be made by the Stewards or whom they may appoint. Second horse to save stakes except in the Hack Race. No person shall be qualified to enter a horse in other than the “Hacks,” unless he is a subscriber to the Race Fund of at least Two Guineas. All entries (excepting Turanga Stakes, which are to be sent in at time, and as above specified, addressed as below) enclosing fee of 15 per cent, on value of stakes, together with qualification, to be made in writing, and forwarded to the Honorary Secretary, at the Argyll Hotel, Gisborne, not later than 8 p.m., 22nd January, 1874. Entry to include name, description, and age of horse, and colors of the riders. Jockies to ride in colors as described in entry, otherwise subject to a penalty of one pound. The winner of any match ran on the course to pay Ten Shillings to the Race Fund. Five per cent, to be deducted from amount of winnings towards expenses. Money to be paid previous to starting.
