PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH MEETING.
The Rev. W. H. Root has obligingly placed the following minutes at our disposal:— In accordance with advertisement a meeting was held in the Court House on Friday evening, 9th inst., to hear a complete statement of the result, and take steps for the erection of a Church. The Rev. W. Hevinghain Root was voted to the chair, a few remarks said the total receipts of tne Bazaar amounted to £225 18s., the expenditure to £4B Os. 6d., leaving a balance of £177 17s. 6d. In addition to this they had £29 2s. 6d. subscriptions, thus making a total of £207 now available for Church building purposes. After some desultory conversation Mr. Meldrum proposed and Mr. Hall seconded: “ That a Budding Committee be appointed to collect subscriptions and take steps for the erection of a Church as soon as possible.’’ The following gentlemen were then appointed a Committee, and empowered to receive subscriptions:—The Rev. W. H. Root, Messrs. Graham, Drummond, Hall, Meldrum Teat, Dick. Mr. Root convener. At the close of the meeting Archdeacon Williams said, he congratulated the Presbyterians on the success of the bazaar; that the Episcopalians felt bound to proceed 1 with the building of a Church, but he hoped no ill-feeling would arise between the two parties. The Chairman said it would have been better for all parties to haye-united and built the one Church, but as matters had come to their present state, each party must do its best. A meeting of the Bmlding Committee was then held when jt was resolved to open a subscription list and take immediate action towards building the Church. It may be mentioned that owing to the money in hand, the subscriptions promised will not be wanted immediately, and may be paid by instalments.
