NEV ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY'S REPOR r. London, 31st October, 1873. Wool - The fourth series of Colonial Wool Sales for the present year, was brought to a close on 23rd idem. Previous quotations were maintained with little variation, and an improvement, was manifested in the biddings for com bing and stout stapled Australian and New Zealand wools, resulting in an advance on August prices of Id to IJ-d per lb., for these descriptions. Cape wools, which at first were quoted “ easier,” declined id to lid per lb., the greatest fall being in superior snow-white; while superior greasy remained unchanged. Purchases by the home trade have been strictly to supply immediate requirements. Stocks in consumers’ hands are understood to be small, and there has been an absence of speculative operations. It is estimated that 45,000 bales have been taken for Contineiitiul account. The sales included about 18,000 bales of old stock, and it is believed that 7,000 to 10,000 bales are now held over in first hands for the sales which will commence on the 27th November.
